Stapeley Mine
This is located 3 miles north-east of Priest
Weston. It was only a short lived
concern but between 1863-1866 it produced 809 tons of lead ore so must have
found a single but very rich lead vein.
For such a small mine, it had several alternative names, eg Middleton,
Mitchells Fold, Stapeley Hill and Staveley.
There is an open adit (1) on the hillside which ends at a fall. This corresponds with several collapsed shafts further uphill. Another adit further down is blocked and used as a water supply.
